Lost I-693 Medical Exam?

My wife went to the required medical exam before the interview in Tokyo. After the interview, she got her passport back via mail. After the visa approval and arriving into the US, we completed the marriage and began the process of status adjustment/green card. Fast forward to now, we just had the "initial interview" at a USCIS field office. Everything went well except the question of medical exam.

 

We were asked if we have any documents from the medical exam, like the I-693. The problem is we never received such documents. We only have the receipt of examination. All she received beside passport was the sealed envelope, which has been submitted accordingly.  I suppose that had the medical exam documents. Now we received a RFE (request for evidence), and medical exam documents must be submitted with it. That would mean going to a medical exam again. She already paid $300 for the medical exam in Japan and unfortunately we may have to pay that amount again, through no fault of our own. 

 

What can be done about this? Can we call anyone to recover the documents? It seems like the documents got lost, maybe by USCIS or the embassy, and we have to pay for their mistake.

you could try contacting the place she had her medical exam done in Tokyo

 

but theres no telling how long that will take

you might be better off biting the bullet and paying for another medical.

 

she should have received as DS-3025, Vaccination Documentation Worksheet, after her medical in Tokyo. That could have been evidence of a medical being done. but if USCIS doesn't have any record of the medical, they probably would still want a new medical.

Path of least resistance is probably just to get another medical exam.

Honestly the only thing you can do within the short timeframe you have to respond to the RFE, is to go get a new medical exam ASAP and submit it. To try to fight it at this point and risk a denial of the AOS over a few hundred dollars,  after all this time and effort, IMHO would be crazy. If USCIS says they don't have her medical, then it got lost somewhere between when she gave the yellow packet to CBP and them shipping to USCIS and USCIS adding it to her A-File. There really is no other option. You had the interview, the only thing they said was lacking is the medical so give them what they want and be done with this AOS part of the journey.
