OK, got a bit of progress going...

When trying to replace card online today, got message:

"We're sorry. We are currently updating our information based on your prior request.
Please try again online starting May XX, 2025.

You may begin a replacement social security card request using another online social security card processing application. You may also contact your local office for other replacement card options."

So the way I interpret it, SSA is finally working on my request updating citizenship status.

Hi did you make an appointment with the local office to update the card or did the online portal automatically update with this message? I've been trying to contact my local office to update citizenship record but with no success, thanks!

Please read my first message in the thread, it explains everything in great detail.

If you're calling 1-800-772-1213 to make appointment, forget it. Nobody picks up phone there. I found direct phone number of my SSA office by going there in person. Google Maps, other things showed the number above which nobody ever answers.

I use online to check whether they're working on my request. Again, more details in prior messages.

Good luck!

When I went in to update with my passport last year, they had these signs with QR codes posted that let you go directly to the scheduling system online. Sheduled patrons had priority too.

Sorry for late reply. In my case, QR code directed to "scheduling system", which was office locator with wrong phone number pretty much.

This is the QR code I saw in SSA itself and on the print out empoyee gave me. The only thing, employee wrote real phone number on paper under QR code, which helped me to schedule appointment.

Thank you! I will try to get someone on the phone too.

Today I got preview of letter from SSA in USPS Informed Delivery.

In few days, I suspect, SS card will be delivered in the mail.

SSA website now allows me to proceed with replacing SS card online, meaning my record was updated to be US citizen in the system.

All and all, it took 7 days from appointment to status getting updated.

Finita la comedia!

I'm glad you posted this. I had forgotten that I was expecting a new Social Security card following my citizenship. I had not realised that the EBE was suspended.

I managed to find a number for my local office, because as you said, the national number is totally useless. I have an appointment in June to finally round off this process.

I called SSA this morning and had to wait for a callback. Before I got the callback, local ssa office said wait for 2 weeks. In about 2 hours, I got a callback and they gave me an appointment in June. About 3 weeks out. So going to update the office then.

I wonder if they can issue me a new card after citizenship (not that I need one)

They do issue it, effectively they fill form SS-5 for card replacement.

I received mine not long ago by mail.

Also didn't need it as I have the same card with no restrictions since I became a conditional LPR.

The good news is, it doesn't count towards 10 card in a lifetime limit.

Thank you, OldUser, for the reminder to update my immigration status with SSA and all the tips!

I searched for my local office direct number, called them & was prepared to wait for some time, received another call and placed my call with SSA on hold, and when I switched back few minutes later - an agent was patiently waiting for me & scheduled my appointment.

So for all of you who had to wait for them to answer your call for hours - this is for you! I made SSA listen to my hold music while I took care of my other business 😅
