Agreed, I misspoke, I meant certificate of citizenship. Unless somebody wants to jump through hoops proving they're citizens at 50 years of age with parents no longer around, they should apply for N-600. I cannot imagine the pain somebody would have to go many decades later pulling records from everywhere to prove they're a citizen. The alternative is to pay the fee now and have solid proof for life.

Thank you all for your thoughts. My oldest has special needs and we are going to be applying for some state help. The N600 seems to be necessary when applying for the state help.

I am a US citizen that lived in Canada most of my life. (my children do not qualify for Birth Abroad). Married and had kids there. I moved back to the US with my family May 2021. My family came on the Ir-1/2 visas. I am now applying for passports for my girls. I've been told that they were US citizens right when they came in the country. I got this letter back after the passport application and I'm confused... do I really need to send in all this evidence or do I just send back the ir2 visa stamp page in their Canadian passport?

Hi, I applied for their passport and received this letter back. Do i really need to send in all this evidence if they became citizens the day they crossed in to the US? Or can I just send their Canadian passport and show the IR2 visa inside of it?

And I opened both letters and they're requesting evidence for only one of my daughters.

Yes, I believe you do need to provide all that information even though it seems redundant to the IR2 applications (different departments, different bureaucrats).  The last two bullet points are important when passing on US citizenship to children born abroad (USC parent, or USC grandparent, must have resided in the US for 5 years with at least two years after turning 14 years of age).

They don't qualify for Children born abroad, I don't see the point in proving where I lived when I don't meet the requirements to have them be children born abroad. They came in on a IR2 visa and became citizens through that.

I opened up the other letter I got for my other daughter from her passport application and they're not asking for any evidence. She just needs a different passport picture.

For you to convey citizenship to your children who arrived on IR2 visas you must prove they are living with you in the US in your legal and actual custody, that you are a US Citizen and the child arrived as a LPR.  The residency and custody from when the child arrived until now are important elements in addition to your citizenship.
