My attorney says that we have to wait one year to get the K1 visa welcome package from the Mumbai consulate after the approval of I-129F ...

My fiance's I-129F was approved by USCIS on Feb 29, 2024 and her status on NVC got "ready" on April 4.  Our attorney (from the SF Bay area) who filed the case tells us that we have to wait one year for the welcome package via snail mail.  However, it seems from the forum that people are getting DS-160 filled as soon as the status becomes ready on NVC.  I wanted to check if we should fill the DS-160 and get an appointment asap without waiting for the welcome letter.  What would be the wait time to get an interview appointment at Mumbai?  Can one interview without the arrival of the welcome package?  If not, how long would it take to receive the welcome package?  Is there any Whatsapp group that I can join to discuss these questions?

Thank you in advance,

Ksen

Fire that lawyer. Once you have case number from nvc, you can schedule interview and medical, and fill out DS-160. If you don't know the case number from nvc, you can make email inquiry.

Thank you for your post. Big relief for us! What is the wait time to get an appointment if we fill out DS-160 today? (We were very sad yesterday when the lawyer told us about 1 year wait time.)

I'm not sure about wait times, but if you don't already have the case number from nvc you will definitely need it for completion of DS-160 and scheduling of the interview and medical. If the petition was approved in February nvc most likely has the case number but you have to email them.

Finally please create your timelines

Thanks. We do have the case number and I used that number to check the status on NVC which says its ready.

It looks like you are in the processing stage of I-129 and you are from Philippines. How do you have knowledge of the entire process for India?

I'm the US citizen petitioner. I don't have any knowledge of how it's handled in India, however everyone goes through the same process of filing the petition and waiting for the NVC to do it's thing. I've learned a great knowledge about the process from this website. If there is a backlog at your embassy  then there is not much you can do. That said, you can be proactive in contacting the nvc for case number and completing the necessary DS-160,and trying to schedule the interview and medical.

Don’t you think that lawyer could possibly have been referring to interview wait times for that consulate…..?

Check for Mumbai sun forum . You can filter . You will get plenty and eventually it will lead to a what’s app group.
