If someone from Haiti visits the U.S on a passport, how long are they able to remain in the U.S before having to go back

A Haiti citizen needs a visa to visit the US, the allowed period of stay will depend on the visa. For a B-2 visitor visa the period would typically be 180 days.

Somebody from Haiti needs to have a valid visa to enter the US on Haitian passport.

 

Depending on visa the length of allowed stay will be different. The maximum stay on visitor visa is 180 days. Work or student visa may allow to stay longer for different purposes.

They can't do that.  They need a B visa to visit.

 

And based on the fact that you posted this on the 'Bringing Family Members of US Citizens' board, you will need to petition your family member properly.  They cannot visit and stay to adjust.

they were in the process of getting their visa, all paperwork were approved they just needed their medical appointment made and interview schedule but the Embassy shut down and now i don’t know what to do to get them out

they were in the process of getting their visa, all paperwork were approved they just needed their medical appointment made and interview schedule but the Embassy shut down and now i don’t know what to do to get them out

They cannot just board the plane and come without visa unfortunately. 

 

What are others doing in the same situation? 

 

I cannot advice, it's not a usual case. Maybe their files need to be transferred to an embassy in another country where they can attend the interview. Not sure...

Well then obviously a B visa is not going to be a viable alternative.

But who would i contact for that if the embassy in Haiti is closed? I tried to Haitian consulate and there was nothing they said that was helpful

There may be info posted on the US embassy Haiti website.  In similar situations we have seen, all visa operations would be deferred and any resources used solely for the purpose of assisting US citizens to get out of the country.  There is not much you can do.

Don’t expect to get any answer or help soon. We’re in extraordinary circumstances and expediting visas for non Americans is not a priority. Heck the American embassy is still trying to figure out how to evacuate officials etc, your situation is not even on their radar.

Haiti does not have a specified alternate, you reschedule anywhere you want, I assume DR is nearest.
