2.
it should auto populate.
Do not include your wife in part 5 #3

part 5# 8 should be 2 once you type 1 in part 5 #1

One thing I've noticed while preparing mine is that the auto population doesn't work as well when completing the pdf file using a browser, when I opened the document using Adobe Acrobat everything worked better.

Correct.  The PDF, is built to be completed with Acrobat, or Adobe reader.

I'll add that there are both a PDF file of step by step instructions to follow, AND instructions on the form.  Many questions or confusions come from not heeding the instructions ON the form.  Sometimes the instruction on the form is imbedded in, or part of the question itself.

That's why nothing beats good ol'e handwriting to fill out the forms, together with reading instructions and the questions 20x, to make sure one understands the form entirely.

Depends on your handwriting skill compared to your typing aptitude.  Sometimes there's no choice but to do some things by hand, but the form works quite well if you use Acrobat or Adobe reader.  Sucks if you try to fill it with most other apps.
