Thank you, wouldnt they look at net profit only?  I appreciate all the responses today, feeling very desperate but I think this can be overcome.

Not sure what you mean by "net profit".  I told you the only number they look at.  In some cases, I suppose that may be the same number as what you hare calling "net profit".  It typically matches the income you pay taxes on.

Don't confuse revenue and income.  In this context no revenue numbers are considered until they appear on the total income line of a US federal tax return.

As you work on your 2023 tax return, watch that number.   Sometimes the self employed will forget about some deductions in a year they need to sponsor an immigrant.  They can always remember those deductions later and file amended returns.

Thank you, Pushbrk.  I was also recommended to get a second job just to be certain that I well exceed the requirements.   Will they look at the start date on the employment letter and frown because it is recent?  Thank you so much!

They might notice and "frown".  What of it?  Are you saying you cannot provide a 2023 tax return showing plenty of self employment income?

I most certainly can, but I just want to make the app as strong as possible.  If I can show $80k in income for family of 4 much better than $45k, yes?

So the issue is the level of deductions you have taken in the past?

Hi Boiler, yes.  If I would have just thought about it in advance I would have had no issue.  But you only get the first shot, then the RFE is issued requiring a Joint Sponsor.

They approved exactly the same income for the K1 Visa in Bogota.  I didn't think they would deny for the I-485.

Well at this point with the denial, I should just refile with 2023 taxes, correct?  I could always amend 2022 as well but would that make any sense to do that?  Thank you.

Would not make sense to do that, as they've already seen the 2022 return.

The financial requirements of the I-134 are lower, and it is not binding.   So, apples to oranges really.
