Made a mistake on ESTA application - forgot about past employer!

Oh god, I cannot believe this.

 

So when I applied for my ESTA, I put that I had no past or current employer, as I was unemployed at the time. I totally forgot about the short period of time in which I worked for a store, as I was only there for less than a month and had to quit due to health reasons.

 

Can I fix this? Am I screwed for K-1? I know you have to file for a new ESTA to change anything aside from passport details and US address.

 

I’m terrified now. I only remembered the past employer bc I saw it on the tax website in the UK when filling out employers from the last 5 years in form I-129f.

I only became aware of this now bc I am printing my ESTA application for more evidence of travel to see my fiancé in the last two years.

Please help me. I’m so angry at myself. I only remembered the employer bc I had to list employers from the past 5 years for I-129f. I went on the UK tax website which lists employers for my specific employment date for my current job, and I saw my old job from 2019 on there, and I was there less than a month.

My current understanding (now I am somewhat calmer) is that this is not material misrep bc it would not have made an impact on whether or not I got the ESTA, right? If anything, putting “no” to past/current employers would have been more likely for denial.

 

Should my next step be to apply for a new ESTA and list my current employer? I have a job now.

 

Also, when it comes to the DS-160 in the future, when it asks about any past misrep regarding past applications, should I say yes and explain this mistake? Or is that only for material misrep?

I think the question you mentioned says “willful misrepresentation.” This is definitely not willful and not providing the information only hurt your chances of getting the visa, if anything. I would check “no” on the DS-160 and not worry about it. If the discrepancy comes up in an interview you can say that you worked for such a short time that you forgot about it.

Thank you so much for responding. This is what I figured too, once my anxiety had calmed down from the initial “Oh god, I made a mistake on a US application!” horror.

 

It’s reassuring to read that you also think the same as I do. It would have been a totally different story if I had messed up one of the eligibility questions, that’s for sure.

Any advice about what I should do next regarding the ESTA? It naturally expires in April 2024, but should I apply for a new one to show that I now became aware of the mistake and fixed it?

I wouldn’t bother  Just apply for a new  one before you apply for a K1

We plan to send the I-129f at the end of this month.

I would be saying to get a new ESTA before you apply for the K1 just to get that clear of the immigrant intent .. the omitted job went be an issue
