An update for me PaulineA - Received NOA dated 8-27. Biometrics scheduled for 09-12.

When I go to the biometrics appointment I need to take my passport or other form of picture identification. The thing is I haven't had my new name put on any of my ID yet. Do you think it would be OK to take my passport or driver license in my old name, and bring my marriage certificate to prove name change? Thanks.

Yes, you have to bring your passport or driver license and also your marriage cerfiticate with you to prove your name change. That's wat i did on my bio and it worked good...

an update for lmhvm - received biometrics appointment notice scheduled for 9/11.

Never received NOA1.....is that normal?

Well, look at the timeline in the post above yours. There are a lot of 'No' entries in the 'NOA1 Rec'd?' column...!

Or any sign of life.

Good luck with that. I heard reports that the last time they heard a beating heart at USCIS was in 1974.

They tried to shock it post 9/11.

My wife did her biometrics yesterday. We filed her AOS in married name and she showed her state MVD-issued ID card which has her married name and that was fine with them. They didn't ask for a marriage certificate.

We've been checking our online banking everyday with no luck, Mylene has been so worried. I woke up at 4:30 (pre alarm clock) and thought I'd take a look .. Our checks were cashed yesterday .. woohoo

Went to the USCIS Website to check the status of Mylene and Ashley's AOS but the case numbers on the back "do not exist" according to the error message that I receive when entering the numbers (the numbers are very clear on the back of the checks). Hopefully this is just due to the backlog or maybe the system hasn't been updated yet...

Yes for the simple reason that she had a photo ID with the name she used for her application. Many people do not have that because they have to wait for EAD or GC to change the name on the SS card, and without it you can't have an ID with the married name (unless you had your passport changed).

It is a good idea to bring your marriage certificate when all your photo ID documents are with your maiden name. I mean how else are you to prove that it's really you if not that way? They don't have your full documents for the biometrics appointment, they don't know what your maiden name was most of the time.

1/ most of the time the numbers in the back of the check and the actual case number are slightly different

2/a lot of cases (and I mean A LOT) are not updated right now online. They are working on the cases, that's good enough to know.

I don't know you but I'd rather know that they are taking the time to do their job even if it means they don't loose the minutes to tell us what's going on with the case.

Some agents do updates, some don't.

So wait for your NOA or biometrics appointment to have the actual useful numbers and don't panic if you can't access your case online.

Is it bad for me to say 'I told you so'? ;):)

PS the case # should be 13 digits. Mine was next to impossible to read, but we got physical NOA1s the next day in the mail.

I filed AOS on July 27th and my wife's I-94 expired August 25th... based on my set of facts I am in "worse" shape than you were (due to an already expired I-94 rather than one that will expire in 3 weeks) so I am sorry but I really have no sympathy...

YMMV
