Forget the sex. Check out those titillating invoices at the Trump hush money trial.

The documentary grunt work, however, was for a potentially crucial purpose. Prosecutors appear to be trying to check all the boxes that constitute the elements of the 34 felony charges Trump is facing, all of which turn on technical intricacies of New York’s business recordkeeping laws.

This is interesting, now this guy I have been watching off and on for years, he flies 747s to interesting places, normally freight, and I have never heard him mention anything political.

Now a Karen in the back seems worse than an Emu.

Considering the incident took place 7 years ago…lot has changed.

Most Americans have had to sit down across the dinner table with a Trumper and a Dump Trumper.

Who knows…we could see a birdie soon😂

Trump was depicted making the hand gesture toward the Trump Organization’s former longtime corporate controller Jeffrey McConney in a sketch by courtroom artist Elizabeth Williams that Ari Melber aired on his MSNBC show “The Beat.”

“According to people in the room, Trump seemed to want a level of solidarity or whatever a fist pump means to him,” said Melber. “Again, I’m trying to be fair in my reporting. Even as McConney said things that were incriminating.”

“Yeah, I can’t begin to fathom what that fist pump is doing,” said Katyal. “I mean, McConney was very bad for Trump.”

Trump’s lawyer’s defense “was atrocious,” said Katyal. “He basically said, ‘Look, payments to lawyers by the Trump Organization are legal expenses, right?’ And then McConney answered, ‘Of course, they are.’”

“That’s not the issue,” Katyal added. “Of course, if you pay a lawyer generally, that’s a legal expense, but not if you’re doing it for other things that aren’t legal expenses. If I pay a lawyer to give me some cocaine, I can’t say, ‘Oh, it’s a legal payment and therefore it’s all hunky-dory.’ Of course not.”

Ohh I have seen and heard quite a few, from my experience the worst ones are females in their 60's, obviously guessing at age as it would be rude to ask. Now I am not going to share my views and I think they assume I am a Dem? Not sure, anyway I have a deep distrust for Politicians generally.

Dalai Lama apologizes after video asking child to ‘suck’ his tongue sparks outcry

The Dalai Lama has apologized after a video emerged showing the spiritual leader kissing a child on the lips and then asking him to “suck my tongue” at an event in northern India.

In a statement Monday, the office for the Dalai Lama said he “wishes to apologize to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused,” adding he “regrets” the incident.

His Holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and before cameras,” the statement said.

His apology comes after a video of the exchange, which took place during an event in the hillside city of Dharamshala in February, went viral on social media with many users criticizing the Dalai Lama’s actions.

The Dalai Lama, who turned 88, has said he will live to be up to 113. But his health has been deteriorating, and he’s been hospitalized a few times in recent years.

Tibet’s Dalai Lama turns 88

The reincarnation debate

According to Tibetan Buddhism, when the Dalai Lama dies, he is reincarnated. Other higher monks set out to find the successor — a young boy in most cases, according to instructions left by the previous leader — and groom him.

The current Dalai Lama has said he will decide on his reincarnation when he turns 90. But Beijing says it will be the one to choose the successor, an idea that Lekshay and other followers reject.

“His Holiness is the only person to decide upon where His Holiness should be born, nobody else,” he said.

A bitter tussle over the rightful leader is likely to unfold in the coming decades. In 1995, soon after the Dalai Lama identified a 6-year-old boy as the reincarnation of another high-ranking monk, the Panchen Lama, Chinese forces took the child into custody and installed someone else — who is rejected by the Dalai Lama’s followers. Across Dharamshala, there are posters about the boy chosen by the Dalai Lama, whose whereabouts are still unknown.

On Thursday, the 14th Dalai Lama turns

The Tibetan spiritual leader and prominent Buddhist figure is the longest serving in the line of Dalai Lamas in Tibetan history. As he gets older, the prospect of his demise — and what happens after — is looming.

Tennessee v. Powell, Case No. I-CR-086639-B (Cir. Ct., Williamson County, Tenn., undated).

In a criminal case in which Mr. Justice represents the defendant, the government filed a motion in limine to prohibit the defense from referring to the prosecution as “the government,” asserting it was prejudicial.  Justice replied that such a ban would violate the first amendment, but went on to argue, that should the court agree with the government, er, the prosecution, what’s good for the goose should be good for the gander:

Should this Court disagree, and feel inclined to let the parties basically pick their own designations and ban words, then the defense has a few additional suggestions for amending the speech code. First, the Defendant no longer wants to be called “the Defendant.” This rather archaic term of art, obviously has a fairly negative connotation. It unfairly demeans, and dehumanizes Mr. Donald Powell. The word “defendant” should be banned. At trial, Mr. Powell hereby demands be addressed only by his full name, preceded by the title “Mister.” Alternatively, he may be called simply “the Citizen Accused.” This latter title sounds more respectable than the criminal “Defendant.” The designation “That innocent man” would also be acceptable.

Moreover, defense counsel does not wish to be referred to as a “lawyer,” or a “defense attorney.” Those terms are substantially more prejudicial than probative. See Tenn. R. Evid. 403. Rather, counsel for the Citizen Accused should be referred to primarily as the “Defender of the Innocent.” This title seems particularly appropriate, because every Citizen Accused is presumed innocent. Alternatively, counsel would also accept the designation “Guardian of the Realm.”

Further, the Citizen Accused humbly requests an appropriate military title for his own representative, to match that of the opposing counsel. Whenever addressed by name, the name “Captain Justice” will be appropriate. While less impressive than “General,” still, the more humble term seems suitable. After all, the Captain represents only a Citizen Accused, whereas the General represents an entire State.

Along these same lines, even the term “defense” does not sound very likeable. The whole idea of being defensive, comes across to most people as suspicious. So to prevent the jury from being unfairly misled by this ancient English terminology, the opposition to the Plaintiff hereby names itself “the Resistance.” Obviously, this terminology need only extend throughout the duration of the trial — not to any pre-trial motions. During its heroic struggle against the State, the Resistance goes on the attack, not just the defense.

WHEREFORE, Captain Justice, Guardian of the Realm and Leader of the Resistance, primarily asks that the Court deny the State’s motion, as lacking legal basis. Alternatively, the Citizen Accused moves for an order in limine modifying the speech code as aforementioned, and requiring any other euphemisms and feel-good terms as the Court finds appropriate.

I know @Nature Boy 2.0 is a big fan, but Nancy Pelosi can be quite petulant.

Pelosi rebuked to her face during Oxford debate after condemning Americans clouded by 'guns, gays, God'

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was rebuked as an "elite" during a recent Oxford Union debate, where she argued that populism in the United States is a threat to democracy.

Pelosi — a self-described "devout" Catholic — said during the April 25 debate that certain Americans, whom she considered to be "poor souls who are looking for some answers," refuse to accept the answers Democrats give them on particular topics due to their beliefs about "guns, gays, [and] God."

Challenging Pelosi's position in the debate about populism, Winston Marshall, a musician who was once a part of Mumford and Sons and now hosts the "Marshall Matters" podcast for The Spectator, spoke in opposition to the Oxford Union motion that "This House Believes Populism is a Threat to Democracy."

National Opioids Settlement

National opioid settlements have been reached with defendants Janssen, Cardinal, McKesson, AmerisourceBergen, Teva, Allergan, CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart. This website provides copies of those agreements as well as additional documents and information concerning the proposed settlements. The agreements themselves control the terms of the settlements, and entities eligible to participate in the settlements should consult with counsel about participation. What Must Prosecutors Prove in Trump’s NY Trial

https://www.lawfaremedia.org/article/what-must-prosecutors-prove-in-trump-s-ny-trial

Steinglass, in his response, offered a meta-commentary. “I think there is a misperception about the law and about what this case is about,” he said.

No kidding. Misperceptions about the law and this case have abounded since District Attorney Alvin Bragg handed up the indictment in March 2023, thanks to either the case’s novelty, a dearth of New York state law expertise outside of New York state, or both.

In a recent piece for Lawfare, one of us attempted to clear up some of these misperceptions by charting the legal theory behind The People of the State of New York v. Donald Trump. While the indictment alleges no conspiracy, as Bove correctly mentioned, Bragg charged Trump under New York Penal Law § 175.10, falsifying business records in the first degree, a felony “stepped up” from the misdemeanor charge under § 175.05, by alleging that Trump cooked the books with the “intent to commit another crime and aid and conceal the commission thereof.” Justice Merchan has permitted the prosecution to pursue three theories related to that underlying crime, known as the object offense, but the prosecution seems to be zeroing in so far on one, in particular: New York Election Law § 17-152, a misdemeanor offense that prohibits “conspir[ing] to promote or prevent the election of any person to a public office by unlawful means.” As Steinglass said in court on April 23, “while it's true that there is no conspiracy in the second degree charge on the indictment, it is not true that a conspiracy has not always been alleged to be part of this case.”

But even after laying out mechanics of the case as Bragg is prosecuting it, several questions—or misperceptions—remain.

Chief among these questions are: Do prosecutors have to prove that Trump committed one of the three object offenses? And if so, does the jury have to agree on which one? And to what standard of evidence? In addressing these questions, we’re not aiming to endorse nor refute the prosecution’s legal theory, nor the case law around New York Penal Law § 175.10. Rather, we’re aiming to clear up a few “misperceptions.”

It has been hard to watch CNN recently, the dreams the hope, and then the realisation that it may all be quashed.

Attorneys for Donald Trump have sent a cease and desist letter to the filmmakers behind “The Apprentice” in an effort to block its U.S. sale and release. It warns the team behind the film not to pursue a distribution deal, according to two people who have read the letter. “The Apprentice,” which looks at Trump’s early years as a real estate developer and his relationship with Roy Cohn, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this week.

“The film is a fair and balanced portrait of the former president,” the producers of the film said in a statement regarding the cease-and-desist letter. “We want everyone to see it and then decide.”

The movie, which was independently produced, stars Sebastian Stan as Trump and Jeremy Strong as Cohn. It presents a damning portrait of the former president as an ethically compromised, philanderer who stiffs contractors and cuts deals with the mob to get his buildings completed. It includes other controversial details, including a scene where Trump rapes his first wife, Ivana, and depicts him abusing amphetamines to lose weight, as well as undergoing liposuction and plastic surgery.
