Hi everyone,

Yesterday, me and my fiancé finally heard back from the NVC after waiting more than 80 days for a case number. However, the email included instructions for Spousal visa applicants, and not K1. I have seen a lot of mistakes made by the NVC (or the USCIS) in people's posts, but I haven't seen this happen to anyone before.

In short, the email asks us to log in to the CEAC website and pay the Affidavit of Support fee, which K1 applicants are not supposed to do. I've already sent an email to NVCresearch to ask if this was a mistake on their part since we are K1 applicants. I also called the embassy in Sweden to see if they could help, but they couldn't since the case is still at the NVC. Anyway, I guess my real question here is if someone else has been through this, what happened, and how was it resolved? Any insight on the matter would be much appreciated.

That is a common mistake.  It used to happen quite often.  Disregard the CR-1 instructions.  I assume you now have your case #.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

That's great! Thank you. Do you know why it happens? Neglect on NVC's part? Hopefully they'll respond to my inquiry with the case number then :)

Because NVC (and even consulates) send out template instructions to K1 and immigrant visa applicants.  Applicants are supposed to decipher which sections are applicable to their case and which are not.  My spouse visa interview letter includes instructions to bring the bank receipt for the K1 visa fee 🙄
