Passport expiration and Interview

Hello

I am hoping to get some feedback. Embassy is Vietnam

 

We are on a 221g issued in Oct 24th 2022. It has been hectic 2023 so far and had to reschedule 221g appointment a few times do to work obligations and financial constraints to travel. 

 

Now our appointment is scheduled for June 5th and it has slipped by us about the Passport expiry. That is Sept. Arggg I know. 

In the stresses of getting ready it got by us. 

I would like some advice. 

My thinking is that still keep the appointment and expect another blue slip requesting to send in the new passport when she gets it for stamping. 

 

Should she apply for renewal now? I don't know if in Vietnam they take the passport. I know in the US they do. 

 

Is it better for her to renew after interview or before? Will they even let her in the building without the current passport?

Also, her medical from 2022 would likely be expired by June.  Did she already undergo another visa medical?

Her medical was done just before interview in Oct. Is medical good for 1 year?

Visa medical is valid for 6 months (maximum) only.  So the medical completed in Oct 2022 is already expired.

Certainly apply for a new passport. Copy all pages of the old one, in case you need to refer to it in the future - you can present the new one at the interview/send it in after approval, if not ready by interview.

Thanks I did not realize this. I will have to reschedule again. 

The required vaccines are still good?

Any passport for the medical, it doesn't matter.   Renewed passport will also save you the struggle of renewing from abroad.

No need to repeat vaccinations except for flu shot during flu season, typically October to March.  If other vaccines come in a series, the panel doctor may or may not require the next shot in the series for the 2nd medical.

DOS policy says police certificates are valid for 2 years from issue date, but the interviewing officer may ask for more recent ones.  If your wife's police record is more than 1 year old, better to get a new one if it's not too much hassle.

The vietnam one can do easily but the Taiwan one was difficult. But she has not returned there. I will have her do the Vietnam one again.

So another thing that came to my mind. 

If we have to do the medical again fo we have to redo the DS260? 

 

Does the ds260 have an expiration date?

No need to re-do the DS-260, unless the consulate explicitly requires the applicant to update their DS-260 info.  Some applicants whose cases have been on admin processing for years were required to do so.  Very unlikely that it will be required of your wife.

Hello I have a follow up question. Been in contact with the medical place and they confirmed the medical has expired. They said she can do the medical at any time but they can't send it to the embassy until they reopen the medical case in the eMedical system. 

She said the embassy has to do that. 

 

Do we have to contact the embassy? Does anyone know anything about this particular issue of having to redo a medical exam?
