Hi,

I have been divorced in US and got married in Pakistan, I received my marriage certificate but I notice that my marital status is showing unmarried.

Because I am divorce in US  should my Marital status say divorced? Will this cause any issue when i file for the CR1 visa.

after a divorce or loss of a spouse ,  u r again single

it would be an issue if your last tax returns had MFJ/MFS with the name of divorced spouse(but only for Pakistan)

US doesn't care

JeanneAdil - so when i produce a Pakistani marriage certificate in the embassy, this will not be an issue showing my marital status unmarried while i am divorced US.

You were "unmarried"  (not "single") the minute your divorce was pronounced final.

Hi,

You can take that certificate to nadra and ask them to issue you a new one with your marital status that shows divorced. They do have two options unmarried and divorced for male applicants. Or you can leave it unmarried it is up to you. You can tell nadra personal that your divorce took place in the U.S and was not registered in Pakistan incase Nadra asks. I have same issue but I chose divorced on nardra certificate... I told them that I was divorced in the U.S ! The reason I would get the certificate which shows divorced because when you file I-130 you will have to submit prior divorce papers with it. You want to keep everything clean and same or you might have to explain it later if uscis/state department ask you or your spouse. Why to chose divorced? Because at the time of your second marriage you were divorced or you can say technically unmarried but not single. I hope this helps.
