Petitioner Change of Address, I-130

Good afternoon everyone, 

I recently submitted an I-130 via mail on Dec 2022 for my wife who is living overseas . 

I recently moved on 17 Jan 2023 . Do I need to update my address as the petitioner ? I tried calling the USCIS number and they provided me with a link. I tried connecting my case online using the receipt number but then it asks me for online access code which I do not have . 

Since I sent it via mail , will I still receive an online access code ?

What should I do in the mean time since USCIS wants you to update your address within 10 days ?

Good to see I'm not the only Romanian folk around. I'm a July 2022 filer.

 

You only have to update your address to USCIS as a USC if you have submitted an I-864 (Affidavit of Support). You have to notify them within 30 days of moving elsewhere.

Anyways, look for an access code on your NOA1. They provide a code to you so you can create an Online account and track your case there. Very helpful IMO cause you can see all your notices before they reach your mail. Pretty sure you can update the address from the newly created account.

Send in I-865 even if you never completed I-864. That will update your address. 

(done this twice when we moved for I-130 for sibling petition, visa number still not available which means I have yet to do a I-864)

I don't think we ever got an online access code, and it was very frustrating because we were also expecting one.  She doesn't really remember, but my then-fiancee (now wife) says she got a letter in Romania with instructions of how to make an online account, before she had to go to Bucharest to provide fingerprints. 

 

For the address: Update your address anyway.  They just want to have an updated address where you can receive mail notices.  They should send you an acknowledgement that they received / applied the change of address, it's like a I-797.  My original address was my parent's house in CA, I started renting an apartment before my fiancee came over, and I forgot to tell them that we "changed" addresses until like a month after the lease was signed by both me and my fiancee.  You can also write an explanation of why it took longer to notify them, but for the RO applications they move so slow with the letters that you shouldn't be worried about a letter being sent to your old address.

 

P.S. The mail notices arrive a couple days after the email notices, so you're better off watching your email and junk folders instead of the mailman.
