When my wife filed back in late 2016 we could not see any updates.  The I751 is pretty much a waiting game unfortunately, but if you plan to naturalize under the 3 year rule, you can file the N400 in about a year.

You will get a receipt notice that will extend your green card for two years. Then you will get a biometrics notice. Then you’ll go to that appoint and your status will be updated to biometrics taken. Then there will be a really looooooong wait.

You can check your status with a case number here: https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/mycasestatus.do

My wife submitted her I-751 in September 2019 and just got an email this week that an interview is being set. She applied for naturalization while we waited, so the interview will be a combo interview I guess because it says it’s for the N-400 in the email. Not sure if applying for citizenship sped things up or slowed them down.

Can you please update me after the interview.  We have been waiting a long time, too.  No interview for either scheduled yet.

Thanks.

FYI our N-400 interview is set for 10/4/22. Interview letter came in the mail today. No mention of the I-751, but hopefully it will be a combo interview.

So my wife had her interview today. It did end up being a combo interview.

She went in alone (well with our baby) and did the civics and literacy test. The interviewer was also from Ghana, so they spoke a little about that.

I was called in later and he only asked my when we married, when we started dating, where I was staying in Ghana, if I had met my wife’s parents, and if she had met my parents.

He was very friendly the entire time and said that we had plenty of evidence. He didn’t look at any additional evidence we brought except for our son’s birth certificate so that he could add it to the file.

She will have to wait a little for swearing in because she is doing a name change.

He did make the point that we would still be waiting for an I-751 interview if we hadn’t applied for naturalization. The only reason the I-751 was being adjudicated now was because he already had the N-400 in front of him.

I forget, I guess I have to check the document again.

Our processing time was like August 2022 to first week of March 2023.

I was kind of surprised as well.  Initially, we received a 60 month (or 48 month extension) and 2-3 days we received a notice stating everything was approved and to wait less than 60 days for the actual new card.
