Hi everyone,

Greetings,

I and my wife  are from Nigeria and we submitted our civil documents, however the police certificate we submitted has 3 months validity it is written on the certificate that this document will expire in 3 months, it will expire  in 2 weeks time. I contacted NVC about this confusion  and they sent me a link that says below statement without giving me any direct answer.

Note: Present and former residents of the United States do NOT need to submit any U.S. police certificates.

Important: Police certificates expire after two years, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued.

so my question if our police certificates have expired before NVC receives it. will the 2 years or 3 months validity be applied on our document. My wife lives in my home country.  Please anyone that has experienced this should help. we submitted our documents recently and they confirmed they do not have our documents yet.

Thank you

@Emmajapan

It's hard to say as it depends on when NVC will look at your documents. As you already submitted your documents, if I were you I would live it as is, in hope they give you a DQ within 2 weeks (mine took 5 business days, but we heard some people are waiting many weeks now).

But if you are able to start the process of getting new ones in the mid time and it's not too expensive, I would also start that process. So you have them if NVC say you are missing these documents.

You will definitely need new unexpired ones for you and your wife for your  interview in Montreal. But that'll take around a year from DQ. The 2 years doesn’t apply if you go back to your country to visit.

@Canadian24,

Thank you so much. For my peace, I will request for new ones. I doubt if nvc received the documents I sent earlier as my lawyer used usps to mail the documents without signature required.

Which courier service did you use to mail your documents.

Regards,

Thank you

Please for mailing civil documents to NVC after submitting DS260

Which courier service did you use.

My attorney used usps to mail such documents but I think express courier service such as FedEx, USPS is better.

Please which courier service did you use?

Thank you,

Regards

Are you currently residing in Nigeria ? If yes - not sure how long it takes for you to get a new Police certificate-  because there is a 2 month wait between interview letter n interview - this way you can apply for a new certificate once you get IL.

if you are residing in a different country other than Nigeria and have never been to Nigeria after your last Certificate was issued then you do not require a new Certificate, your older certificate will be valid provided you do not visit Nigeria until your Interview is conducted. Hope this helps.

If the NVC doesn’t receive the documents before they expire, you may be required to submit a new police certificate. Additionally, even if the documents are submitted on time, you might still need to provide updated police certificates in the future for your interview. If your interview is scheduled at a Montreal consulate in Canada, your wife will need to provide a new police certificate from Nigeria. If the interview is in Lagos, Nigeria, and you have lived in Canada for more than three months since your DQ (Documentarily Qualified) date, you will also need to present a new Canadian police certificate at the time of your interview in Lagos. All the best.

Thank you very much for your reply.

We will try and submit another police certificate if nvc does not receive our documents this week.

I guess you are from Nigeria

Good morning everyone, I submitted my Civil documents to NVC and NVC confirmed that they received it today. My wife police clearance will expire in 8 days from now and she stays in Nigeria.  I'm kind of scared. If NVC reviews the police clearance after it expired, Can NVC issue me RFE to resubmit the police clearance before they confirmed that we are Documentary qualified.  Anyone who experienced this should help.

The Documentent is valid when they received,  but may not be valid when they review it as it will expire in 8 days time

Thank you very much

The visa class being EB1 could be why @Canadian24 got it sooner. Hope yours is on the way and the line keeps moving! 🙏

All EB’s are given the same priority, but IIRC @Mano17 is from India, so a different category on the VB.
