Hi everyone! My FIANCE` is here now (he popped the question on his visit here, yay!!!), and we are nearly ready to submit our packet. However, we are waiting on one document (divorce decree), and may have to go to the courthouse to get it in person. I want to get the packet sent in by Friday to allow enough time before the fee increases. Is it okay to hand deliver the packet to the service center...I live a reasonable distance from the Texas center, or do they require it to be mailed. I thought it would make a fun bit of secondary evidence to have our picture taken at the service center turning in our packet. Any thoughts? Thanks!

What he said...........

Personally, I would rather mail it certified and get a receipt and I only live 40 minutes from the CSC.

I'm sure they would still receive some sort of receipt and still receive the NOA1 in the mail. To me, it would be worth it to hand deliver if possible to avoid paying a lot more money. If they send the packet now, it should be fine, but they may not have it ready yet. No?

You need to mail in the petition.

According to the information in the above link, they can hand deliver up until the July 30 deadline. That's the way I understood it anyhow.

I might be being really dim here, but... where does it say you can hand deliver petitions? I'm not sure that's what they mean by direct filing', if that's what you're talking about...! Or am I just not reading properly today...?

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

What they mean by direct filing is that you don't have to send your petition to Texas or Nebraska Etc. You can file it directly with California or Vermont. Nevertheless Texas is still accepting petitions and forwarding them to California. All the service centers have street addresses for courier delivery. I don't see any reason why one cannot serve as their own courier.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

A Warning to Green Card Holders About Voting

Yeah I understood the same by reading it.

You can still send it to one of the four Service centers before July 30th, and then you will have to send to either CSC or VSC.

Direct filling means to send directly to the said service center. Since the IMBRA Texas and Nebraska were forwarding the I-129f applications to California as they are not processing them anymore. All it means is that as of July 30th the correction will be made in the filling instructions to make sure the people that are in the states related to NSC and TSC will send their petition to CSC.

Sorry guys but nothing about hand delivery in there. You have to mail it. Its up to you if you want to go in front of the service center and take a souvenir picture before you put it in the mail.....

Thanks for the responses everyone...I'm going to mail the packet. It's all done and ready to go in the morning (wait, it's 2:47 a.m. It IS morning). I'm obsessing a little now as I am mailing it a day earlier than my goal day. I'm having minor surgery on friday so I can't do it then. Do you all think mailing it on the 19th is enough time to get it in before the fees go up? If it's not, will they send it back? This forum has been SO HELPFUL with everything. Thanks again to all!

everything I've read indicates that as long as it's post-marked before the 30th, you should be ok... we're counting on that; my fiance just mailed our package yesterday! weeee! it's really happening!!

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.
