Hi All,

I currently live in Chicago and Chicago is my local office.

Timeline:

Applied for Citizenship via N-400 In October 2021.

May 2022 - Received interview date for citizenship in CHICAGO for July 2022.

June 2022 - I am relocating to Colorado. 1 month before my interview in Chicago.

Question: Since I am moving to Colorado in June, and my interview is in Chicago in July, I have zero problem flying back to Chicago in July for my interview. However, What will be said at my interview when they find out I actually live in Colorado now? Will they tell me that my interview needs to be changed to their Denver office? Can Chicago office approve an interview if the applicant lives in a different state.

I wasnt able to change my address from Chicago to Colorado as I am currently still living in Chicago. I move in 2 weeks. So should if I change my address on their system in 2 weeks, will my interview be cancelled as they see i moved out of state.

Any advise would be great.

Thanks!

the rules are u lived in that judical district the 3 months prior to applying

u can move after

u may want to ask if the oath ceremony can either be done that day (by calling the office) or if it can be scheduled for Colorado

Thats awesome! Never heard that rule. So once I lived in the Chicago District 3 months prior to applying for my N-400, then I can interview in that district? Is there a link to that rule? Just so I can have it available on the day of my interview if there is any issues.

And great idea about Oath Ceremony. Thanks!

  • Living within the state or USCIS district with jurisdiction over the applicant’s place of residence for at least 3 months prior to the date of filing.

The 3 month prior to filing is strictly related to initial qualification of filing N-400. The moment you file AR-11 they automatically cancel your interview and transfer it to new Field Office for jurisdiction.

Unless you want to wait ( again), for Colorado to get your file and reschedule, then I would hold off on address change til you take oath.  Call USCIS and see if Chicago is doing same  same day oath ( or be willing to fly back for oath ceremony)..I don’t see them allowing split jurisdiction between interview at x and oath at y.

  .
Although they routinely conduct interviews based on Attorneys address ( different state than applicants), and they themselves can transfer cases to other Field Offices , including different states..( to manage backlogs), you may run into a “ by the book” tough Officer unwilling to excercise discretion and who will say” as an LPR you must do AR-11 within 10 days…
