Good morning everyone! Can you guys share your experiences with getting SSN number. I am asking about my daughter's matter who successfully arrived 2 days ago. She was told that her permanent resident card will arrive within 120 days. But how to deal with SSN?

did u mark the ds 260 box for USCIS to do the work for the SS #?

if so,  it will arrive in the mail to your address

if not,  take her passport with the visa page to the SS office and apply (recommended to wait at least 10 days for the info to be in the system)

The official wait is 3 weeks for the.SSN after arriving in the US, if you requested the SSN on the DS-260.

After 3 weeks contact SSA and see if the request for the SSN is in their system.  If it is, they might be able to tell you when it will be mailed.  If they have no record, then make an appointment at your local SSA office to apply for one.

EDIT: I noticed you are in Bolton, MA?  If so, the Worcester SSA office is very good about SSN for immigrants.  We tried a different SSA office once, but they insisted on having us mail in original documents.  The Worcester office had us mail in copies, then after they reviewed the documents they scheduled us for an in-person interview to get the card.
