Completed the N-400 today. Once done, it prompted me to Pay and I did that as well. After the Pay transaction, it errored out right away (with "500 Error"). Multiple sign out and sign in on different browsers results in the same.

ERROR:

500 Error

We're sorry, something went wrong.

The page you are looking for may not exist or is temporarily unavailable. To help you find what you are looking for, try: USCIS.GOV.

QUESTIONS:

  1. What can I do? How do I tell whether my N400 is promptly submitted?
  2. Will I be receiving emails about my submission anytime soon? What kind of correspondence can I expect next?
  3. Will I be given a case number? If so, how and when (approximately).

Payment does show up on my credit card as pending. Also received a payment confirmation email from the system. But no other information available.

Please help.

So sorry this happened to you.

The http network protocol is an abortion imho.

I would wait 30 days for case number and if there isn’t one, call USCIS, say “info pass” and ask about your case.

Menawhile see payment moves from pending to confirmed or if it disappears.

Was the payment successful ? If it was, you will receive an email with a receipt number.that’s your receipt number, you can check status with this number.  No need to wait. No info pass needed. If the payment isn’t successful, just consider reapplying

The old school way takes time and also paper applications can get lost in the mail.

Instead of going back to the old ways, it is better for the new ways to improve.

The IT systems usps has for processing mail, while abysmal, are better than those of USCIS.

My point was to further improve the online system.

How?

Online is definitely better than mail.

I disagree but you are  free to file online or advocate for it.

I am not sure that I understand your point. The N-400 application can be done online and it is much more convenient.

Anything that is done online is almost always better than doing it by mail.

Not in the case of the N-400 as has been well documented.

It is definitely much more convenient doing an online N-400 versus mailing it. It is definitely much more convenient uploading than printing out papers and mailing it.

Those who have had problems with the N-400 application are those who have applied too early.

You are definitely in the minority if you think that doing things by mail is easier.

Technology is a great thing. Those who try to avoid it will get left behind.

Remember Blockbuster? Are they still around? They wanted people to go to a store to rent movies.

Have you ever heard of Netflix? Netflix allows people to order ONLINE. That is very convenient.
