Hi there,

Me (Canadian) and my fiancée (American) and I have received our interview date for January 18 in Montreal! Very exciting, but I have a few questions regarding the medical exam.

1. Is there a specific window the exam needs to be held in relation to my interview date of January 18th?

2. Is there a long wait to schedule an appointment with a physician an approved physician?

3. Do I schedule a Canadian Immigration Exam or a US Immigration Exam? (I'm Canadian moving to the States)

Any help is great!

The date of the medical should be the closest to your interview date as the visa expires 6 months after the medical examination was performed.

The panel physician needs to be approved by the consulate. You can find the list here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/MTL-Montreal.html#med_exam_instructions

Once you choose one, you call and schedule.

Since you have your interview letter, I'd advise you call one of the approved physicians and book an appointment immediately.  Due to the limited number of approved physicians, appointment slots fill up VERY quickly.  If the consulate does not receive your results in advance of your interview, you will be placed in administrative processing (AP) until such time the results are received and reviewed.  This isn't the end of the world, but it does delay things.

In the meantime, gather your immunization records.  If you do not have immunization records, have your PCP perform a titers test and if the results indicate you require any vaccinations, get them done while they are covered under provincial (or work) healthcare coverage.  If you aren't fully vaccinated for covid, that is a requirement, as is a yearly flu shot.

Good luck!

You could get it asap. I booked my medical exam right after I got the interview date. They emailed the results to the consulate on the same day. I received the DS3025 and X-ray CD via snail mail a week later.

2. Is there a long wait to schedule an appointment with a physician an approved physician?

I would suggest Dr. Cheema in Surrey, BC. Flexible schedules. Make sure to get your vaccinations beforehand as well. Tdap, MMR, Annual flu shot and Covid vaccine. No need for Varicella if you had chickenpox before.

3. Do I schedule a Canadian Immigration Exam or a US Immigration Exam? (I'm Canadian moving to the States)

US medical exam.
