El Salvador has paused all immigrant visas.

Sister in law has just got an email from the US Embassy.  They have paused all immigrant visa processing.  They told her they do not have a date yet on when they will start again.  She also sent me this article about the relations between the 2 countries.  https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/us-official-says-el-salvador-relations-paused-lack-interest-2021-11-22/

Sounds like a similar situation with Russia. El Salvador might end up being placed on the "homeless nationality" list if it continues. In that case, applicants will be reassigned to another embassy in a nearby country.

This article is related to diplomatic relations between the two governments, not to be mistaken with the processing of immigrant or tourist visas. Immigrant visas ARE being issued and the process never stopped even during the pandemic. Tourist visas are NOT being issued; HOWEVER, that is due to the issues with the COVID pandemic, not due to diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The OP literally says the embassy contacted them directly to say that immigrant visas are not being processed.

Which is completely wrong or not a true statement.  The State Department IS issuing immigrant visas for all qualifying categories. For certain categories the process was suspended for a period of time based on the Trump executive order, HOWEVER, as of March of this year, immigrant visas ARE being issued for ALL categories.

Immigrant visas are being processed my husband just got his approval on December 9 and my cousin is working on it too. So it must be about the tourist visa that one is not being processed until next year. You can see at the US embassy SV
