Bringing pet into the Country

The Visa Interview is next week so we are rapidly approaching our Visa approval date (I hope). My Fiance has decided to bring her family dog with her rather than leave it with her adult children. Is there any special paperwork that needs to be filled out? I read that the dog needs to up on vaccines and we can only fly into certain airports. But I'm not seeing anything in regards to paperwork. Do we simply buy a plane ticket and that's it?

nope,  don't just buy a ticket

Of course it wouldn't easy. Nothing through this entire money grabbing process has been. I'm so frustrated with this government

To quote another member

this is not cheap

this is not fast

u do realize a pet is not on with passengers but in a separate holding section in the container

No I didn't realize that either. The airline websites say they can fly under our seat with us

Depending on animal breed and size, they can travel as a carry-on or be transported through Airlines Cargo. Carry-on pets are limited to cats and dogs that meet the size, age and destination requirements

we had a big news story about 3 months ago about pets on airlines

so,  just be sure what is and is not allowed on your flight(s)

remember , if u need to change planes ,  a dog or cat (or other ) may not be allowed in the airport itself

my dog was in a container and i never saw him till i picked him up at animal control which was a building separate from the main terminal

Check the airports you go thru

example:

Chicago o'hare

service and working dogs on a leash allowed in terminal but all other animals must be in a kennel (carry container)

Your timeline shows your consulate is in Armenia. There is a CDC ban on dogs coming from countries with high risk or rabies and Armenia is one of them.

You will need to apply for a Dog import permit.

Were you able to bring your pet? My mother is in a similar situation, but its an IR5 Visa. Thanks  you!

IR5 is an immigrant visa, so you should should qualify as long as she follows the rules as she should receive a green card before she enters the country, and be considered a lawful us resident relocating to the USA.

She will need to be microchipped, get rabies vaccinations, rabies titer test, and valid rabies certificates, etc.  Then she must enter at an approved checkpoint.

All the details are here:  https://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/apply-dog-import-permit.html

The reason it's unclear for K-1 is that K-1 is considered a non-immigrant visa and my fiancee will not have a permit upon entry.

Your profile has no timeline, but assuming she and her dog are from a high risk country.

My fiancee's k-1 visa has not been approved yet, so we haven't tried to import the dog yet, although we have worked through the certificates/titer test/etc.

Its possible, I brought my dog to the US when I came over on the K1 visa 5 years ago.  Microchipping and vaccine records must be up to date.  Double check with the airline you intend to fly with to make sure you are compliant with their regulations.  Once landed the pet also needs to be registered locally in the US.  Good luck!

Just want to point out that there are new rules under the Biden administration and it's a bit more difficult than 5 years ago if you are in a high risk rabies country.
