New COVID Vaccine Requirements in Thailand

Hey Everyone,

Has anyone thought about how they are going to tackle the new COVID vaccine requirement in Thailand after October 1?

Thailand is implementing a new vaccine strategy which includes one (1) Sinovac vaccine and one (1) Astra Zenica vaccine. It is currently unclear whether or not this combination is acceptable for the CR-1 Medical Exam. It is acceptable to have two (2) Sinovac or two (2) Astra Zenica vaccines, but I am still not sure about the combination. Does anyone have any additional insight on this topic?

I don't think the US even recognizes the UK manufactured Astra Zeneca vaccine, let alone the Thai manufactured version at this point. I doubt they recognize Sinovac right now either. Perhaps a third booster shot (of a US recognized vaccine) will be the solution for these mixed vaccines?

My husband and I are just starting the CR1 process from Thailand and both have only received one dose of the AZ vax here (scheduled to receive the second AZ in a few weeks). We're hopeful that by the time it's needed for his visa, the rules on vaccines will have cleared up a bit.

I think the only thing you can reasonably do is to receive the shots that are available to you, and if you have the option to receive just modern/pfizer/JJ or alternately AZ then definitely take that route.

Yeah we are waiting for some clarification as well. According to the CDC mandate:

https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/panel-physicians/covid-19-technical-instructions.html

Astra Zeneca and Sinovac are "approved" vaccines, because they are listed for emergency use by the WHO. This is the Emergency Use list for the WHO:

https://www.who.int/teams/regulation-prequalification/eul/covid-19

Time will tell though.

In the Technical Instructions for Panel Physicians it says.....

The applicant should be vaccinated in accordance with the specific instructions for the formulation used in the country where the examination occurs.

Which could be interpreted as saying that if Thailand says mixing vaccines is OK and the physical takes place in Thailand, then it is OK since it approved by Thailand.
