I'll start off here by saying that my wife and daughter (green card holders who came here on K1/K2 visas) are in the process of removal of conditions. We filed I-751s in March, and received the I-797 letters with 18-month extensions on them. Everything seems fine on their cases. We're just waiting for the process to continue to completion.

A few days ago, we received a letter from USCIS with our address written correctly, addressed to a total stranger we've never heard of. (The letter remains unopened.)

First thing I did was to check my wife's and daughter's cases online to make sure everything is okay there. It is. I was just thinking maybe their status changed and a mailing for them was sent to somebody else's address too.

So, I remain with this letter from USCIS addressed to somebody I have no idea who he is; maybe it's something important to him. I'd like to notify USCIS, but have no idea how to reach the right people/department to inform them of this error.

Any suggestions?

copy the name and address and save (just in case they meant to put your name on this notice)

write "wrong address for this person on envelope and return to sender" and send it back

hard to get any answers calling USCIS

Take the envelope, write: "Return to sender - Addressee unknown" on its face, and cross out the destination address (your address). Then drop it off at a mailbox. USPS will return it back to USCIS and they can handle it.

Knowing how people's addresses get mixed up and how it'll take long for the intended recipient to receive USCIS correspondence, I'll try Google the person or FB search and just quiz. If the recipient was waiting for something, I'll personally put it inside another envelope without opening the USCIS one and forward. You may save someone headache.
