I just saw that the covid 19 vaccine has been mandated starting October 1st for green card applicants. My husband just had his medical exam and did not receive this vaccine as it was not required yet. Will his medical exam be denied since he does not have this vaccine, if we dont get the full application turned in before October 1st?

we're unsure, the covid vaccine is the only one that was age appropriate or that he didnt have from before, and since it wasnt mandated yet we were hoping we were able to slide in our application before it was required

Your husband could get vaccinated before October 1st and bring proof of it to the interview

As long as you are “complete” on the date the medical is signed off, then that’s it. You don’t have to go back and add new requirements that may come through. Prior to October 1, you can be complete without Covid vax (or a flu jab).

Another example of “complete” when signed off—

If your exam was not during flu season, then you don’t have to get a flu shot. The waiver is marked “not flu season”.  You are done, with no flu shot. If you later interview during flu season, you still don’t have to have a flu shot.

Interviewers don’t review individual shot records. They leave that to civil surgeons. The interviewer needs to see that a civil surgeon  signed off the shots as “complete” on an I-693. For exams signed off prior to 10-1-2021, Covid vax requirements are not a thing.

And I meant to add another example—

If you showed up at your exam with zero shots, they could give you a MMR and waive the second one and not make you wait the 28 days to get the second MMR. They sign you off as complete because you are as complete as possible on that day. You never have to get the second MMR shot.

It should be noted that the new Covid requirement won’t work that way. You must be fully vaccinated to get signed off, ie 2 Pfizer, or 2 Moderna, or 1 Johnson & Johnson, etc.

Thank you! Thats what I was trying to find but hard to find information like that. I called one of the civil surgeon offices today and asked about this and he said that even if my husbands medical was completed and sent off before october 1st, he would have to have the covid vaccine because by the time his app would be looked at it would be required. I think he was just trying to scare us honestly

This is how the US Embassy in Vietnam describes this situation...

https://vn.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/medical-examination-and-vaccination/

"Starting October 1, 2021, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control will require that panel physicians include COVID vaccinations as part of the larger visa medical evaluation process.  This new process will not impact those that have already begun the medical examination process prior to October 1, nor those that already have their visas and plan to travel after October 1.  '

I'm hoping this is not a mistake as we are in this situation exactly.  Ie, we started medical before Oct 1.
