Hi,

I went to get a driver's license. Filled my paper application form, There was a question on first page whether you are a US citizen or no? I checked on 'No'.
However on 2nd page there was an option of voting registration, I clicked 'no' there as well. I am not registered to vote. I already double checked on state's website and even on my county's website and I am not registered to vote.

But my concern is, I don't remember but I MIGHT have accidentally signed under the citizenship affidavit/voter declaration thinking that I am signing Driver License application form.

Would I be in trouble if I have signed the form since it looks like a false claim to citizenship? But I didn't get any benefit out of it as I didn't register to vote.

and what should I write on my N400 form about 'If I ever claimed to be a US citizen' question? Because I don't remember if I signed it or not.

Thank you.

As you said, you are not registered to vote.  What you fear you might have done is not relevant unless you actually did.  You don't know.  How would WE know?

I am not registered to vote. I am not worried about that.

My only worry is that On that voter registration form, a person has to sign in the end. It was citizenship affidavit/voter declaration. After checking 'no' to register to vote. I don't remember but I think I had accidentally signed that citizenship affidavit/voter declaration thinking that I am signing for actual driver license application form.

If I had signed that one, would I be in trouble? As it seems like false claim to citizenship (even though I didn't get any benefit out of it).

I don't have an exact one but thats how mine was as well and I'm pretty sure I signed this. It was for voter registration. I am not registered as I ticked 'no' to voter regiatration but I accidentally sign here.

Is it a false claim to citizenship even though I didn't get any benefit from that.  As to false claim, this is what USCIS says:

"For a noncitizen to be inadmissible based on false claim to U.S. citizenship, an officer must find all of the following elements:

  • The noncitizen made a representation of U.S. citizenship;

  • The representation was false;[1] and

  • The noncitizen made the false representation for any purpose or benefit under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) or any other federal or state law."

I don't think so I fulfilled this criteria as I didn't get any benefit out of it?

I think you're right that since there was no benefit, you are in no jeopardy, but don't take that as a legal opinion.  It's not.

Just one last question, on N400 what should I write 'Yes' or 'No' to question whether I ever claimed to be US citizen?
Because I am still not sure whether I signed or not.
My wife says I didn't sign.
Thank you

Sounds to me like to the best of your knowledge, the answer is no.
