The cost of lawyers where are ridiculous. I just recently moved back to the US after not living here since I was a teen. My parents will be coming sponsors.

I'm currently looking for a job but I want to start the petition as soon as possible to get the process rolling. We've been to together 2 years. We had a religious ceremony last and got legally married in June of this year.

I currently don't have enough money for lawyer fees but I have enough for the petition.

Would advise would you give if you're doing the process without a lawyer.

Also I'm 4 years older than my husband ( he's 29 and I'm 33) would that be an issue?

He's also from Nigeria but he's currently living in the middle East ( where we met) so he would be interviewing at the embassy there and not in Nigeria. I heard that it's hard to get visas for Nigerians, so what would be our chances?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

It can be done without a lawyer provided it is a straight forward case.

Thanks for the link of resources. I'm relieved the age gap isn't an issue. I heard that women who older than a man get denied.

Sometimes, but usually it's a bigger age gap PLUS other issues.

Once you've studied the guide, download the forms AND their instructions (separate PDF files) and become an A-Student of both the instructions AND the forms themselves.

This forum is full of applicants who did not use a lawyer (you'll see the term DIY mentioned quite a bit).

If you ever have a question search the forum, it's a wealth of knowledge and it's almost guaranteed someone else has had the exact same question. If not, feel free to ask.

Best of luck!
