Where are your parents?  The I-485 is only for applicants already inside the US.

They are in pakistan.do I need to file I-485 for them after their arrival in the USA?

No.  The I-485 does not apply at all in their cases.  Stop taking immigration advice from that friend.   He/she is giving you inaccurate information.

From a recent post by our distinguished member, @pushbrk, these are the fees per person.

1.  Fee to USCIS is $535

2.  Two fees to NVC $325 and $120

3.  Medical exam fee varies by country.

4.  $220 to USCIS, AFTER the visa is in hand.

No.   If they receive their immigrant visas, it won’t be for another couple of years.

How long is it gonna take according to you for them to receive Immigrant visa?We might not need to file I-485 for them isn't it?

Possibly about 2 years.  It could be a little less.  I-485s are never used for people who get immigrant visas.

I-485s are used to adjust from one status to Legal Resident.  When your parents arrive in the US with their immigrant visas, they will automatically become Legal Residents.  There will be no need for an I-485.

approximate processing timeline between USCIS,NVC and Islamabad embassy?

USCIS -- https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

NVC -- https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/nvc-timeframes.html

As for the wait time at Islamabad, check the updates from others who are going through that embassy --
