So are you saying that the request needs to be made to the NVC as opposed to the Embassy?

It is ready to be sent to the consulate. When the consulate opens dates the NVC will schedule and send out the Interview Letter.   Where is the case/status in CEAC?

Just wanted to update, my mom got her interview date, Nov. 2! She has two weeks to get her medical sorted. 
 

apart from the usual docs, did anyone else’s parents take anything else?

Just make sure the documents are the same as what was uploaded to the NVC. My mom took another copied of her certified marriage certificate and it had another number so we were denied pending that we uploaded the one they had seen.  She also needs your birth certificate.

Out of curiosity, what questions were your parents asked? Did the officer refer to the ds260. I found some typos and errors on my mom’s form so just wondering what to do about that.

One of the FAQs on the embassy website says if it’s an error involving security details like passport or trips taken then complete a new one and print the new confirmation. If it’s just biographic like name typo or address etc, then just inform them at interview.
