We have to send in a total of $1,760 in fees (forms 485, 130, and the biometric fee).  Can I put it all into one check?  Or should I write separate checks for each amount (i.e. $1140 for the I-485, $85 for the bio fee, and $535 for the I-130)?

You have two applications

I -130 + I-130 fee ( one check)+ application + documents

I-485 + Biometrics Fee ( one check)+ application + documents

it is recommended to send  each application with its own check but if you want you can send one check for both applications + biometrics fee

I agree with @Noname93, do 2 separate checks. The people receiving the petitions at the lock box are not known for having very good math skills, and will not be able to put two and two together and come up with 4 as the answer. @igoyougoduke spelled it out even better, but go with 2 checks.
