I thought this was interesting as they are looking to put in a big solar farm, well near me in American terms. And I was reading all about it.

I know people in the Wind and PV industry and none are unionised.

I helped somebody upgrade their PB system and am working on a small PV upgrade for a part time job I have.

Seemed that all the stuff except the batteries were imported, and a big PV system would be grid tied so no batteries.

The one nearest me would involve grading, fencing and then install, take about a year. I assume they would then need a part time caretaker to check things but that would be about it, unlikely to come with benefits. Now it does generate tax to the county but nothing much in jobs.

The imported factor is the one big thing the politicians leave out when they talk about the lost jobs from petroleum and the workers should go make solar panels.  I don't see the US being a big player there until our economy collapses and we move back to third world status.
