A couple of filing questions

Hi everyone,

I applied via the online format in June. I noticed in the N-400 guide that it says I need to provide two photos. The online format did not request me to upload those, though it did request I upload copies of birth certificates, etc.

Is that normal? Will they just ask me to bring them to my biometrics appointment when/if that ever gets scheduled?

My second question is regarding my status. My permanent resident status is set to expire in May. Do I need to apply for any extension for working status? Or am I ok to just keep on working now that I have applied for citizenship?

Thanks!

First question, no I do not think a photo in needed. See link below.

Second question, it’s kinda too early to apply for a work permit. Just have a valid passport and when it is a month or two to the expiration date, you can request an info pass and get snap on your passport.

They will take your photo at biometrics, and then again at the interview.

Is your permanent resident status expiring, or your card is?

Thanks!

I will be 10 years from issue - my understanding was it expires at 10 years when based on marriage.

Permanent means ....permanent.  Your card expires, your status doesn’t.

As a rule of thumb, referring to tabloids for information about immigration technicalities is not a good idea ;) The instructions for N400 actually say photos are only required if applying from overseas. “Photographs. Only applicants who reside overseas must provide two identical color photographs of yourself taken recently. ” - page 10, https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/n-400instr.pdf

By the way, a LPR does not need and will not be granted a work permit even if their plastic GC has expired. And a green card holder is not required to maintain a valid unexpired passport. They are however supposed to keep their green cards in valid status and renew them before they expire.

No work permit needed. Your card expires not your status. Because you’ve applied for citizenship it’s pointless to do the I-90.

Think there's language somewhere about needing to renew green card if you apply for citizenship less than 6 months before it expires. 6 months or more to expiry then no renewal is required.

Can't say I know exactly how this will affect the actual adjudication of the n400.
