I am working on filling out the I-130 and I don't have exact employment dates outside of the years. Is it a bad idea to write "01/01/2016-01/01-2017"?

I have tried looking for exact dates of employment, but I am coming up short. I can see what years via my previous tax returns, but that's it.

Approximate dates are fine

Approximate, yes. Arbitrary January 1, not so much.  You probably know the season of the year.  At worst, pick the middle date of the season and year.  Put some effort into your estimated dates.

Thanks for the feedback. I will try my best. Would it be a good idea to add that they are estimates in the additional information fields?

Yes.  Do make your best effort, concentrating on what you DO know instead of what you don't know, and do some investigation.
