I gave birth two months ago, my wife Is a US citizen while I am waiting for my green card, I transitioned from F1 visa as such I have an EAD card.

I am currently working while my wife isn’t. We want my Mom to come spend some time with us to help with the baby.

My questions are this;

1. Do we apply for a tourist visa?

2. Can I invite my Mom or its my wife who is a citizen that can?

3. Do I need any other supporting documents asides the invitation letter on our part? My Mom is wealthy and she can sponsor herself.

Thanks

1. No, your mom applies for the tourist visa

2. No one invites her, she applies for herself ...she will of course mention in the appropriate part of the form who she plans to visit

 3. You don’t provide anything. Your mom can take evidence that she will be returning home afterwards, that is the most important. They may or may not look at it.

FYI, here is the official information on the above:

Note: Visa applicants must qualify on the basis of the applicant's residence and ties abroad, rather than assurances from U.S. family and friends. A letter of invitation or Affidavit of Support is not needed to apply for a visitor visa. If you choose to bring a letter of invitation or Affidavit of Support to your interview, please remember it is not one of the factors used in determining whether to issue or deny the visa.

by the way, what is your home country? Most US embassies/consulates are still not issuing routine B visas.

Thank you so much. So under visa type, will I choose B1/B2 or B2? Since she is coming as a tourist

Best to choose B1/B2. But it would not matter she chooses B2 alone.

Remember that you are not the one applying for her. You can help her with the application but she alone is the applicant and only she can apply. You have no role in the decision.
