Joint account spending issur for ROC

7 posts in this topic

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My husband and I have a joint account, however, we only use it to pay utility bills mostly. As for food, we always buy in Costco and I use his card always. Or in other places, with our individual credit card. As a result, if you look at our joint checking account statements, there will be nothing related to grocery shopping but only for things like Verizon , and transfer from our individual checking account.

Do I have to provide an explanation for this? As for why we don't use our joint checking account for other activities? (I just worry the agent might find it weird, I do have many other support documents such as joint tax transcript etc.)

Thanks a lot!

Yes, include a brief explanation of how you manage finances as a couple. It’s not too weird for people to only have one shared account and have the rest be separate.

How to you pay your mortgage and/or rent?  If it is from your joint account, that will be very good.

I think you will be ok.  I think a simple explanation of how you do your monthly expenses is a good thing.  It will keep them from asking questions about things they cannot easily see!

Good luck!

My husband is paying the mortagage by himself, since I am starting up a business. So he tries not give me too much financial pressure possible.

Do you think I can explain in the cover letter? Or I need to write a seperate explanation letter?

Thanks a lot!

You should be totally fine just 1 checking account and explaining that in your cover letter, as Sukie mentioned above. If you have the bills that map to those expenses from the Joint Checking account that will help tremendously.
