N-400 New Filing Fees

N-400 Application for Naturalization (online filing) from $640 to  $1,160 difference= $520   81 percent.

N-400 Application for Naturalization (paper filing) from  $320 to $1,170  difference= $850   83 percent

 

This final rule is effective Oct. 2, 2020. Any application, petition, or request postmarked on or after this date must include payment of the new, correct fees established by this final rule.

They say, in the document, that N-400 fees are currently below the actual cost (as calculated for other forms).  They say the huge increase will put the fees inline with  other services........and we are paying for asylees and some others  "This approach means that the fee for Form N-400 will now represent the estimated full cost to USCIS of adjudicating the form, plus a proportional share of overhead costs and the costs of providing similar services at reduced or no charge to asylum applicants and other immigrants."

No issues with that, the fees were considerably low compared to the efforts behind it (and what you get for it).

I just think they're missing out on a huge opportunity to add an option for expedited processing. Which could be a high amount, and help covering other fees. If the fee is high enough (for example $5k - just to throw a number out there) it's almost safe to assume that only people with actual important personal reasons would throw this in.

Well I’m glad I got my application submitted. My local office is such a long time to wait (when I checked 2 weeks ago it was 12-36mo, currently its 16-24mo) that I’d pay for expedited processing.
