Green card backlog due to budget issues

My friend from the same town as me, moved on a CR1 to Boston to be with his wife. He has just applied for his conditions to be removed and was told the lead time was 36-54 months. Considering they say 90 days before (I believe), then it's good to be aware of. 

 

He told me he got a letter from the government to go with his expired Green Card. 

 

With my delays of the actual process, the shining light is they issued me an IR1 and not a CR1 so I was relieved. I hope his experience up to now helps anyone else about to remove their conditions and that they can issue something so you can keep working etc.....

It's not just green cards it's also EAD's. The issue is not about the termination of the external vendor printing contract, it is more to do with the USCIS not making up the card production capacity in-house- shutting down their Corbin KY printers and sharply under-operating their only other printing facility in Lee's Summit MO.

 

As of July 9, the backlog was 50K green cards and 25K EAD's. My MA congressional constituent services confirmed that the printing backlog of confirmed cases has actually grown to 100K a week ago for both cards.

 

Prior to this nonsense, cards sent to the production queue were printed within 1-2 business days. This has since grown to at least 3 weeks (20-30 business days).

 

As mentioned in a different thread, my dad's approved GC case the was sent to production queue on June 29 was finally printed on July 20, mailed out July 21 and just arrived today July 24.

My poor mother-in-law had to send in Form I-90 a year ago after her GC wound up missing in the mail (her husband's arrived, not hers).  Had to start all over again...card has finally been ordered to be printed July 9th. Lawyer said around August it should come.

@JGUnion Correct- the currently backlog is resulting in 20-30 days card being produced from the time the card is ordered and put in production queue. Just be cognizant that the August estimate your lawyer provided is only true if the furloughs are avoided. If the furloughs do happen, be prepared for the worse case scenario to be sometime in September, October or November.
