Hey guys. I recently got my visa issued on July 8. I have plans to travel on August 11. A direct flight from Durango, Mexico to Chicago, IL. I've been getting scared lately because I don't know if I'm waiting too long to go back. I wouldn't want the boarders to close by the end of July or beginning of August. I have two cats, one is 1yr and the other one is 4 months. I recently vaccinated them for rabies so I have to wait at least 30 days before I can take them with me. I wouldn't want to leave my cats here as I wouldn't know when I could come back to pick them up in the stream of this pandemic 😕. Should I leave my fur babies with a relative here and travel within the week or the next or wait to travel next month? What do you guys think?

When does your visa expire? I thought cats didn't need to be vaccinated to travel; only dogs? Personally if the animals need 30 days I would wait for the animals to be ready to travel because nothing is more important to me than my pets. But that's a personal decision; of course there is always a risk borders will closed but a positive is that you will be immigrating and I haven't seen that category of people be barred from the US.

It expires on September 11. The airline I'll be traveling through requires cats and dogs to get their rabies vaccination. Accompanied  by a health certificate as well. Pretty sure it's like that for most airlines, not too sure though. Yes! Exactly. That's how I feel about my pets. The thought of leaving them behind breaks my heart. 🥺. The category for my visa wasn't barred from entering the u.s, but with the increase in cases they might go for a second lock down barring anyone from going in and out.  (Not sure, just speculation.)

My vote would be to wait for the cats to be able to travel with me.

All the bars have had an exemption for spouses and children of US citizens.

PS when we immigrated we also found the airlines had stricter requirements than US immigration for pets!

Could you drive with your cats over the US border, and then fly to your final destination?

Like the others, I doubt very much you will have an issue with your visa, but driving over might be a way to come before the 30 days is up.

Edit:  maybe airlines have the same rabies requirements for cats on domestic flights?  I have never flown with a pet.

Not really an option for me to drive from here to whichever boarder is opened then take a domestic flight to Chicago. Would be a lot easier with the luggage and the cats though. I was honestly worried about the boarders closing for a period of time and not allowing anyone in or out of the u.s. I seem to have figured it out though, thanks for taking the time to read and share your input!
