US citizen or dual citizen?

Hi question! Asking for a friend.

Her and her husband just had their child together. Both of them have not applied for US citizenship because of covid it got delayed. They are still GC holder and both from the Philippines. Their newborn son is of course a US citizen because of the fact that he is born here in the US. Are their son entitled or automatically dual citizen because the parents are not naturalized yet? Please enlighten me if I am wrong. Thank you!

They need to report the birth to the Philippines consulate.

YMMV

The son is a US citizen, and he is also a Philippine citizen by birth.  As payxibka responded, they need to report the birth to the Philippine consulate for their area.

Finally done.

Their son is dual citizen.   Do complete Report of Birth to the consulate that represents the state where the child was born.  This can be done by mail

I wonder about my case. I had my son when I am naturalized. Can we apply for a dual citizen for him?

Hey Kathy,  are you a dual citizen now?   Your son can acquire his Philippine citizenship through you later as well.

No I am not! I am wanting to. Jesse wants to. We want to retired in the Philippines. We just need to find time to go to Phil embassy eventually 😅 I have tried to find out when will the outreach program here last year here in Co but they were cancelled. When my son was born I was then naturalized. I was told By someone if I was still GC holder when I delivered my son he can be dual citizen but not when I am naturalized already. I have not been following a thread like this so I don’t know how the process is. But then what about my daughter who is born and raised in the Phil and became naturalized through my status? Do we need to apply for her dual citizenship? She does not have the certificate of naturalization but has the blue passport already. Would it be wiser to apply for her certificate of nAturalization or it does not matter?

Not yet but I will. Husband wants to retire in the Phil. So do I. We really enjoy our time back home whenEver we fly back. Obviously we will not be living there for good. But just staying there at least couple months a year rather than being stuck here and won’t enjoy a pension.

Your daughter would need to reacquire her Philippine citizen also being she is a USC now  (your daughter won't have a certificate as she "rode" along with you.   Your son and daughter should be able to acquired dual citizenship with you.  I do not know the details on this (regarding your son), you will have to contact the consulate for your area.

Did your mom get her visa before the covid stuff?

A separate certificate isn't really necessary, she has her U.S. passport, that is evidence of citizenship.

You could make sure to have a copy of your certificate and paperwork handy for her as she gets older.

Last time I read on requesting a certificate I believe the cost was $600 ..  passport is much cheaper  ;)
