Covid affecting approved visa for spousal travel. Next step?

Hi all,

My spouse got his IR-1 approved and was set to travel in March. Covid happened and the airlines eventually cancelled all flights  after rescheduling several times.

His deadline to get in is fast approaching (July 23). What do I do?

He's in Nigeria and the govt has just stated it'll reopen but they've said that 3 times before and didn't.

Is there a way I can get a waiver to let him in when the airports reopen? Is there a provision in USCIS for this?

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

What do you mean by a waiver? He has a valid visa, that’s all he needs. The government can’t do anything about cancelled flights. He has about 7 weeks to sort out a flight. If the worst comes to the worst, he will need to contact the embassy about getting his visa extended due to the exceptional circumstances.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Yes, but it's been more than 7 wks with the reopening being extended over and over. Just worried about the deadline or that when he eventually gets to fly in they'll say he missed his deadline to get in.

Contacted the embassy but got a generic email response and phone calls aren't being answered except for emergencies.

On the travel ban thread someone mentioned trying to get enough people to get government approval for a flight maybe you can check that out.

Thanks, I will look into that. I pray that works. I had emailed them a month ago about joining an evacuation flight but they responded  that the flights were for only citizens or permanent residents. Thanks for the information.
