Proving Income in new job - NVC stage

Hi all, again 

 

So, we're at the NVC stage. My husband moved back to the US to re-establish domicile and get a job so he can sponsor us (me and our USC daughter). 

 

1. He did no work for the whole of 2019, has not filed taxes (yet), does NVC need 2019 tax transcript? Or can we upload 2016, 2017, 2018?

2. He has just started working - he works for a Federal Government Department and has only had 2 pay checks. How many pay stubs should we upload? Should we upload his employment contract, bank statements etc as-well? 

3. He earns well over the 125% FPG - should we still consider a joint sponsor? I only question this because in 2019 he earned 0 due to being in Australia and not working.

 

I've searched here and I can't find my answer, if someone knows the answers or can re-direct me that would be FAB!

He can certainly use 2018 taxes (only most recent year -one year- is needed, and technically that's still 2018 since 2019 deadline is in July) and for current income on the I-864 he'll enter the income that he makes in his new job.

You can either upload an employment verification letter from his employer, or some pay stubs to support the income number that he states on the I-864.

wow that’s amazing, thank you.

so he can use 2018 income tax transcript, even though that wage is below the FPGs for our family of 3 and then put in his new, higher income for current.

Well - yes and no. When you stated that he makes well above the poverty line I assumed in my response that this would have been the case for all tax years. But I understand now that this was not the case for 2018 and 2019?

My response still stands (2018 can be used until tax day), but I want to emphasize the importance of proof for 2020 income. “Current income” should be the annual income he makes now, and you’ll need proof for that. I recommend the above mentioned employment verification letter which should state the annual income, along with his pay stubs.
