Hi all!!

S my husband and I have been working so hard to  get our AOS together to submit and now the ONLY thing we are missing are my tax transcripts. I did not file in 2019 because I was living in Haiti as a missionary and did not receive any kind of pay. I filed every year before that. I submit a request for my tax transcripts about 7 weeks ago to only now found out the IRS is doing online transcripts only and I don't qualify to view mine online because I don't have a mortgage, credit card, etc. At this time it is impossible for me to get these papers.

1- Should we submit AOS without them and add an explanation? We have a co-sponsor and all of his paperwork is available.

2 - How do I prove I wasn't required to file in 2019? I can't get that proof from the IRS either.

Thanks in advance!

1. If you have all the tax return documents sent to IRS including W4, you can use that.

2. A statement from you saying why you weren’t required to file.

You can request one online. You’ll need to make an account with IRS. The transcript will be immediately available for download.

Like I said in my post, I'm not eligible to view it online because I don't have a mortgage or credit card.

You can also select to have the transcript  mailed  to you.

This is from the IRS website

Tax Transcripts are only available online.

We have stopped processing transcript requests by mail until further notice. If you only need to find out how much you owe or verify payments you made within the last 18 months, you can view your tax account.

Hi! We are running into this problem as well. For us, the online portal malfunctions when we have to enter a phone number to verify. Like the OP said, they're not doing requests by mail and they have no one available to answer the phone. My questions are:

  • Did anyone else have the same problem with them being unable to verify the phone number?
  • Anyone have any idea when they will be able to staff the phone lines again?

Thanks! We're not due to submit the application for about a month so really glad we started looking into the requirements early!
