I just got notified by USCIS that the they need more documentation to submit my form. The only requested document is the certificate of marriage. My only concern is that I submitted this with my packet initially. Could it have gotten misplaced by USCIS? If there was something wrong with the marriage certificate I sent would they have specifically said what the issue is? Since I only have one chance to submit this proof, I just wanted to make sure?

You submitted the original registered version that you received back from the county?

YMMV

To late now but you never submit an original document to the uscis.  Follow the link and scroll down to the appropriate category

Of course, sorry I wasn’t clear but it was a copy of the original.

Could they have misplaced the document?

Yes.  They have been known to lose things.

🙃 Ok good that makes me feel better. I’ll just resubmit the copy.

Make certain what you are submitting is exactly the document described at this link.  While it is possible they misplaced the document, it is also possible the wrong one was submitted.  Pay attention to every detail of the document description.

I definitely hear you pushbrk. That's my concern because they didn't clarify if they simply don't have my marriage certificate or if there is some pertinent[l1]  information missing from it.  It just says the following about the certificate of marriage:

"Submit a photocopy of the original marriage certificate for the marriage of XXXXX and XXXX. The marriage certificate must be issued by an appropriate civil authority. In order for the marriage to be considered valid for immigration purposes, it must have been legally valid in the location where the marriage took place. The document must include the date of registration and signature of the registrar".

Our marriage certificate meets the requirements. I just don't want to make any assumptions. 😖
