Hello everyone 👋 please I will like to know, after filling and submitting my ds160 form what next? ( I already printed my confirmation barcode) my case was delivered to US consulate in Lagos on the 21st of February and I filled my ds160 yesterday. Do I wait for the embassy to contact me before scheduling my medical? And has anyone been interviewed regarding k1 since the ban came into effect? Please I will need your assistance on this information guys. Thank you.

Hello.. Check your case on the website.. If it shows ready it means the embassy is ready to interview you. Usually they will send you a packet with instructions and also an appointment letter for interview .what I did in my own case was

I filled the ds160

I checked and my case was ready I paid the k1 visa fee at gtbank (for Nigeria)

Created an account with US traveldocs and scheduled my interview

Went for medicals

Got prepared and Waited for my interview date.

I hope this helps if not. You can ask questions where you are not sure and others can assist too

Thank you coforever, yes my case status on the ceac website says it's ready. I called the hospital today in regards to booking my appointment and they asked that I come with my interview letter carrying my case number. The embassy hasn't sent me that yet. Are you saying I should go ahead and pay the visa fee? And if I do that and schedule my interview will I get my interview letter?

Thank you dwheels76.. I am only asking for clarity I have been proactive with this process all along. It's my first time applying, I do not know it all and regarding the ban I am trying not to create any problems as a result of not following instructions, that's the reason I joined this forum. I didn't know I could do it myself. Thank you all the same.

yes.. Pay the visa fee and schedule your interview when you schedule the interview make sure the confirmation code on the appointment confirmation and the Ds 160 matches if it doesn't contact the customer care

then schedule your medicals at the hospital

Thank you so much coforever! I really appreciate your assistance. It's my first time applying I didn't know I could go ahead and schedule my interview without waiting for them to send instructions. I already created an account with the Us traveldocs site. I will go ahead and pay tomorrow and then schedule my appointment. Thank you so much.

There was a post here on VJ I think yesterday, saying that they had an interview in Lagos and after were given a paper saying they could file a waiver because of the travel ban.  Good luck!

Not true.

The K1 applicant mentioned her fiance was interviewed and approved....no mention of a waiver for the K1.

So there is no ban then?

Regarding the ban there have been multiple reports that K-1 interviews have resulted in an approval this week (one of them being my report regarding Myanmar).

However, the real verification that the ban does not impact K-1 will be when the visas are ISSUED.  So that is what many of us are anxiously awaiting.  If anybody in Nigeria or other impacted countries gets their K-1 issued this week or next, please let us all know!

Very true. I know many CR1/IR1's approved Monday and Tuesday and passport kept by CO and told they will be notified once Ban is lifted. So approval just means you move over to the Okay to get Visa pile. Not that you will be getting visa soon. I hope it's not the case. But just seems odd married people and families and not engaged folk. I mean isn't a fiance' coming to US to immigrate and live with their fiance'?

Here is my understanding.  The K-1 visa is officially categorized as a non-immigrant visa, despite the reality that yes K-1 will ultimately lead to immigration.  The language in Trump's extended travel ban only describe impacts to immigrant visas.  The embassies need to comply with the proclamation to the letter, so will continue to proceed as if K-1 is not impacted.  Because marriage visas are categorized as immigrant visas, they are blocked.  I think that for now, it is that simple, even though the end result of marriage visas being blocked but fiance visas are not is grossly "unfair".

Now all of that can change if or when the state department issues clarifying instructions, that is something that could be happening as we speak.  Somebody earlier posted a link to the state department website where they post such instructions (FAM)
