Hello! Can someone please help!

I am currently living in Casablanca with my fiancé. We are going to apply for the k1 visa but are worried about the financial support I will have to prove during the consulate meeting. My parents claimed me for 2017-2018 since I was living with them. Then I took a teaching job overseas here in Morocco. This coming up taxes would be the only one I could claim on my own in January 2020...I am curious how is this going to be possible to prove financial support? I am also wondering if it would be smart to move back to the U.S and get a job back home before the interview so I have some type of proof of US income?

Scaremongering aside - USC’s returning from overseas have 3 choices

1.  Lots of cash in the bank.  At least 3x the 125% poverty requirements at a minimum for their household size, in easily accessible liquid assets

2.  Precede the immigrant, establish domicile, procure employment before the interview

3.  Joint sponsor

Remember it’s a tough embassy considered high fraud (must be that syrupy morality) and you need to demonstrate a lot of time spent together.  The bar for proving valid relationship is very high.  Good luck.

Thank you for the response, so I’m wanting to know if the U.S consulate in Casablanca would take a joint sponsor for the K1 visa if needed

he is not suppose to visit you in your home either

get married and do the CR1

return home

file your taxes

don't make this worse

we can help you here but you really need to know that most K1's are denied in Morocco

so,  while you are there,  get married

still not easy to get the spouse visa in  Morocco but stands a better chance / if you married now,  you could even claim him on the 2019 tax returns and start the process to show commingling of finances

Thank you for responding, so you think it’s best to do the spouse visa vs the fiancé visa? Would  the consulate in Casablanca allow me to have a joint sponsor for the k1 visa? I keep getting mixed reviews on if they do or don’t allow it?

This is wrong. You can use K1 with co-sponsor. My husband (fiance back when we apply) have his father as co-sponsor.

I would love for my mother or father to co sponsor but unfortunately I don’t know if they would since they don’t really like to dabble in legal things like this😑 I have my best friend of 13+ years who said she would sponsor for me. Would this be an issue or does it need to be a family member?

Does not need to be a family member, but you have to tell your co-sponsor that by signing the paper means that they are agree to financially responsible for your fiance. I mean...I do not think you will ever let your friend being burden on any financial situation regarding to your fiance, but you gotta be honest and explain to her your situation :)

Of course, she knows the situation and knows about the legal responsibilities that are tagged with it. Of course I would never let that happen to her which she knows.😁 I guess my next question would be, is it really hard to get approved for the k1 visa? It is almost turning me off to the point of doing the CR1 visa because of the horror stories and posts I’ve read. I feel me and my fiancé have a strong case being( I’m currently living here in Casablanca so I get to see him on the weekends with his family) I also have evidence prof and all this. The only only problem will be the prof of income for me since I’ve been working overseas I won’t have that U.S income they are looking for.

Country is important here. COs for some countries will accept a co sponsor for the I-134. Some will not. Some will only accept them if they are a close relative.

Well.. Lets put it this way, K1 is "cheaper" at front but cost more than CR1 in total. The reason why my husband choose K1 is because the shorter process than CR1. He is type of person who cannot deal with life without his partner too long.lol

So in general: K1 more expensive but shorter process than CR1.

For denial, CR1 you can go back to uscis process if they deny you, but K1 not unortunately :(

That’s how me and my fiancé are. We don’t want to be apart and separated for years. But I guess if denied the k1 it could turn into a longer process if we had to start over. Anyways, I’ve been so stressed out this whole process unsure what route to take.😭 do you know when you have to provide financial support for a cr1 visa? Is it at the beginning or end towards the interview?

I would have to defer to members more familiar with that consulate. I know they are fairly strict compared to the norm, but not specifically how they view co sponsors, sorry.

I am sorry :(

That I am not really sure as I am did not file CR1. I believe that as us citizen you have to have file tax to show how much you make, but please, do not quote me.

Here is the official link for the spouse visa:

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/immigrant-visa-for-spouse.html#4

If I am not reading it wrong, you have to domicile in the US or about to move back to the US and have to file tax. But again, please read the website carefully as I am not fully aware of CR1.

Regardless, I am sure either route you choose it will have some disadvantage (expensive, long process, denial, etc). You just have to choose 😭

For me, I am filling IR-5 and I have to proof of financial on NVC stage which is about 6 months from when I apply. So even though I have to proof it later, I only have 6 months to let the immigration dept know that I make more than 125% Poverty guideline.
