Removing Joint Sponsor?

At the time of interview, I will be employed. But because I will not have sufficient employment history (gap year), I wish to use a joint sponsor. I’m wondering if I can - after having worked for a while(and after fiancé receives green card) - remove this joint sponsor. I can’t find any threads relating to this and was wondering if anyone has done it or if there is even an official option.

If you use the joint sponsor for AOS (I-864), you cannot "remove" that person at will.  It is a contract between the joint sponsor and the US government, and there are very specific criteria for when the sponsorship ends.

The only way to release somebody from the obligations of the I-864 are described on the I-864:

Quote

• Becomes a U.S. citizen;
• Has worked, or can receive credit for, 40 quarters of coverage under the Social Security Act;
• No longer has lawful permanent resident status and has departed the United States;
• Is subject to removal, but applies for and obtains, in removal proceedings, a new grant of adjustment of status, based on a new affidavit of support, if one is required; or
• Dies.

 

So yes, working will relieve their responsibility...but you will likely qualify for citizenship quicker than that.
