Just finished with my naturalization Ceremony! Officially a US Citizen!

So far the March 20th ceremony is still going on. I would suggest calling the Clerk's office in Cleveland if you don't hear anything.

Alex - Thanks for the heads up for my Oath. I actually went to Cleveland downtown to another location (Howard Metzenbaum U.S. Courthouse) which had Oath event today. I met people who successfully got Oath ceremony done. When I asked security there, they said the Oath event is going on as scheduled. They did mention that they are doing groups like 70 people. I don't know if they are spiting the groups or if that was the original scheduled number. Yes, I will keep in touch with the office for my event on March20. Still a week from now and I will wait a bit I am hoping it will go as scheduled.  (BTW, Friday looked like Sunday in the downtown !).

Why this for the profile pic?  Often in movies and on TV when they show Hawaii they show this beach/view. So, instead of doing Kauai or some other locale, we decided to do here, so that whenever some show shows Hawaii and this view, we will see where we were married.

@alexpop13Yeah, right!

We asked her if she HAD to do that...and she chuckled and said, "Yeah,  just like with the photo, it gets stapled."

We were bummed.

And she had issues with the photo, so had to take another one with a whiter background. Went back the next day to submit it.

We went to a local courthouse, since they took walk-ins with no appointment.

In Miami they do same day, or 24 hours (next day), if you have the need. We thought about driving there to get it, but bagged that idea with the virus and all.

And we found out they would have stapled it there too.

 

We did not bother to expedite it. 6-8 weeks is the official estimate. We shall see how long it takes.

Not going anywhere before then. After we get it, maybe to Europe for vacation or to Canada for work if necessary.

But that can wait until it is safe to travel. No rush.

Rest of the family (all my siblings and parents) immigrated from Dubai to Canada. They are all Canadian citizens now.

I am the only American citizen in the immediate family. Happy to be in Florida and to be American.

 

Congrats again! Great to be done, right!

Yeah, we felt scammed on the photo.

There had a photo-taking room right in front of the counter.

I think the clerk was "pushing" their photo services.

We were not having it.

We went back home and re-took our own.

Even their photographer said ours was fine, and the clerk kept pushing paying them to take it.

She went back to chat with her supervisor, and we kept seeing the supervisor nod in approval, yet, the clerk kept acting like it was not good enough. It was the nicest passport photo we had ever had...so we ignored her and told her to use ours for the application, and we will take our chances.

 

We are VISAJOURNEY! We are DIY! hee hee

HI,

I HAD MY N400 INTERVIEW ON MARCH 12TH, AT THE MIAMI FIELD OFFICE AT 2:00 PM.

I ARRIVED AT A QUARTER TO TWO MaD WAS CALLED IN IMMEDIATELY.OFFICER WAS CORTEOUS AND INTERVIEW WAS SHORT AND SIMPLE. CIVIC FIRST AND ENGLISH AFTER. EVERYTHING WENT SMOOTH AND I WAS APPROVED ON THE SPOT. I WAS TOLD  TO WAIT FOR THE OATH LETTER. AFTER 20M, HE CAME TO TELL HE'S SORRY, SYSTEM IS SLOW THAT THEY WILL MAIL ME THE LETTER. I REPLIED" I DO NOT MIND WAITING A LITTLE BIT MORE, HE SAID OK". TEN MINUTES LATER A LADY CAME OUT WITH THE OATH CEREMONY LETTER AND THE FORM TO FILL FOR THAT DAY. GOT MY OATH FOR THE 20TH OF MARCH THEY SAID NOT TO BRING TOOMANY GUESTS. I HOPE THEY WILL NOT CANCEL THE CEREMONY BECAUSE OF THE CORONA VIRUS.

i have question, do you apply for passport right after the ceremony ? or you go to USPS to do that so? need 2 passport photo and the application DS-11?

It's really up to you. I went to my local USPS after the ceremony and applied. And yes, you need a picture. Most USPS have the ability to take pictures on site for a fee.

Why did you go to DMV? I don't think you need to renew the Driver's license if you already have one unexpired
