Hi, everyone! So, here's my case. I just got a call from St  Luke's medical center making me return to the clinic this October 1. My cultured sputum result is due on November 5, so I assume I've been called because they've found a TB bacteria growing on my specimen. Because of this, I am now considering canceling my application, do the 6 months treatment at home, and reapply for a new petition. That is after including all factors (expenses, etc).

My question is, can I reapply for a new petition while on a treatment and how will the cancellation affect our future application? Any response would be appreciated. Thanks!

The question is why would you cancel your petition in the first place?

Why reapply?  They will keep the current petition valid for use to use upon completion of the treatment

Why reapply?

Also, by “at home” do you mean at SLEC or somewhere else...?

I have estimated the expenses doing the treatment in the clinic everyday for 6 months versus expenses if we reapply. I believe doing the treatment there (rent, food, it's so far from home) would be more expensive.

Having treatment at home adds a minimum of 18 months to your journey.

Even if I cancel the ongoing petition? Would the clinic still track it and deny my medical application? I'm sorry, I'm so confused about this.

SLEC is the only clinic,  your finding of TB will remain on file with them

Ouch!!  In sooooo many ways!

1st on my list - Wait until after your actually go to SLEC on the 1st of October.    Calling you a few days early doesn't necessarily mean you have TB .. wait for the facts.

As already asked - Why would you want to START OVER with a new petition?  That totally does not make sense.

Completing TB treatment outside of SLEC has it downside also.  Doing this will add about 1 year of wait time after you complete your TB treatment through another source besides SLEC.   <<  You can read up on this to get the exact details, as it is a CDC requirement.

I do understand about the issues for those that do not live in the Manila area, and the expense that goes along with completing DOT at SLEC.    Still there are ways to handle this, you can find a short term rental a little further away from SLEC that is more affordable.

I wish you the best.  Hoping October brings you good news ..

SLEC wouldn't outright deny your medical, but they would have questions (they already have your records on file).. and they have rules to follow.  And part of that is requiring 1 year after your treatment before they will clear you.  <  like said, read up on the CDC website to get the facts.

This may be one rabbit hole you don't want to go down.

Thanks. This clears things for me.

As others noted, treatment outside SLEC will require a 1 year waiting period after completion of treatment.

SLEC requires DOT to ensure individuals are actually abiding by the treatment for the full course. Many people have stopped after a few weeks/months, which exposes a risk of TB returning or spreading, and becoming resistant to first line medications.
