Entry to America

Hello

So I have had my Visa approved and I am currently waiting for my paperwork to be returned from the embassy. My wife and children are moving back so that they can start school and get settled whilst I sell our house in the UK.

My question is whilst I am waiting for the house to sell and settle our affairs in the UK can I visit them in  America on my visa for a couple of weeks and then go back to the UK. I have heard it can take up to 5 months for your green card to be sent to your permanent residence in America. It can take around 3 months for the house to sell in the UK so I was planning to visit during that period but we aren't sure if this would cause any issues.

Does your passport get taken so that they can process the green card on entry to America?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It is perfectly ok for you to visit the states and go back when you wish, you don't need to wait for your gc, once your passport will be stamped at POE it will serve as a proof of gc 1year from the date of entry. As for your gc if you have paid the $220 fees the card will be mailed to the address you provided and your wife can collect it and keep it for you. Just your passport if fine for reentry.
